OUR MISSION

New York has a bad track record with food insecurity. One in ten New Yorkers experience It, and some boroughs have 40% of adults living with food insecurity.

This website aims to identify solutions to combat food insecurity in New York's smaller communities by studying the practices that worked elsewhere, then finding the communities' needs and connecting them to nearby resources.

Australia

Australian Breakfast Club
A non-profit organization provided breakfast clubs to students to solve food insecurity and being more attentive in class.

Montreal

Apple Costs
Interventions to prevent food insecurity were tested here, with the most important aspects being too far from food and the price.

Italy

Italian food pantry
Food deserts in many areas make it difficult for some people to get food, since they have to travel very far.

Nigeria

Nigerian school
They attempted to strengthen their school systems to identify which students were struggling with food insecurity.

Netherlands

Dutch food
Kids are given birthday boxes so they can all participate in their cultural celebrations, leading to less hunger and less social exclusion.
WHY CAN'T NEW YORK DO BETTER?

The main stems of food insecurity are food deserts, living too far away, mental health, the local food environment, the stigma around receiving help, lack of resources, and costs.

We provide a list of available and free resources, as well as maps and bus routes to get there. If you need to eat, there’s no shame involved. Get out there and feed yourself.
